A construction flag person has been struck and killed on the job in Mission, B.C.

RCMP told CTV News the incident happened at the end of a construction zone on Lougheed Highway between Nelson and Wren streets mid-Thursday morning.

Police say it appears that speed was not a factor in the crash, and the driver may have been blinded by glare from the sun.

Last October, a group of flag people staged a protest on Highway One near the Port Mann Bridge in an effort to educate drivers about the risks they face on the job.

Twenty-three-year-old Jennifer Beauregard suffered serious injuries, including a shattered pelvis and broken bones, after being struck by a speeding car on the job in fall 2009.

Three flag people have been killed in accidents in B.C. since 2006.
