A forklift operator is dead after an industrial accident in North Vancouver.
At around 3:20 Wednesday afternoon, North Vancouver RCMP received a report that a forklift had tumbled off the end of a dock at LynnTerm West Gate on Brooksbank Avenue and Cotton Road.
North Vancouver RCMP Cpl. Peter Devries told ctvbc.ca that the forklift operator was trapped inside the forklift and they considered the scene a "rescue mission."
Devries added that two workers were moving some equipment and the forklift when one of the pontoons under the dock gave way.
The second person wasn't injured.
"At this point there is no criminal element. Worksafe BC will be investigating, in partnership with the B.C. Coroners Service." Devries said.
The identity of the man killed wasn't released by police, who said he was in his mid 40's and that his family was notified.
In addition to RCMP, the Vancouver Marine Unit and the Coast Guard dive team all assisted in the rescue.
Located in the Port of Vancouver, LynnTerm is an export terminal for forest products, steel, cargo and machinery.
