A Langley mother rescued two of her children from their burning home Friday morning, but wasn’t able to save her two-year-old boy from the flames.

The tot died after being pulled from the home by firefighters.

Crews rushed to the rural home in Langley Township at 8:30 a.m. Friday after a frantic call that the toddler was trapped inside.

The child’s father and another neighbour tried to get into the home after the mother’s failed attempt, but weren’t able to get past the flames and smoke.

Langley Township firefighters managed to get the boy out and performed CPR before paramedics arrived on the property.

The youngster died from his injuries a short time later after being transported to hospital.

“There was just no possible way anybody could get into the house,” said Tim Killey, a relative of the family. “We had fire extinguishers, we had all kinds of stuff to try, but there was just no chance whatsoever.”

The family is understandably heartbroken.

“Great kid, close-knit family,” Killey said. “One thing they got is lots of family here, and that’s the best thing they can do is be with family.”

Township of Langley fire department assistant chief Bruce Ferguson said crews had to fight the fire with water tankers because there were no hydrants in the rural area.

The house was not equipped with sprinklers, according to a relative, and it is unknown whether there were smoke detectors installed.

It’s still not known what led to the fire, though investigators do not believe it is suspicious.

It appears the home is a total loss.

A trust account has been set up for the family. Donations can be made to account # 453953208 at Westminster Savings Credit Union.
