Ten days after Matthew Huszar went missing following his company Christmas party in Vancouver, his friends and family say they're feeling helpless as they wait for any clue to his whereabouts.

The 25-year-old geologist disappeared on Dec. 16 and was last seen walking away from the Lamplighter Public House on Water Street around midnight.

His mother Danny Huszar told CTV News that Matthew's absence made for a difficult Christmas this year.

"It was just very tough not having Matt there. It was kind of a big hole in the family," she said.

Police are describing Matthew's disappearance as a mystery, and say they have little evidence as to what happened to him. That leaves the family feeling afraid and frustrated.

"It's also a real feeling of helplessness that there's no information about what happened that night," Danny Huszar said.

The family has been told there's no evidence Matthew was harmed, so they're trying to stay optimistic.

"I think our whole family wants him to know that we love him very much, and we're very worried about him," his mother said.

"We pray that he's safe and that he'll be able to come home soon."

The young man's friends have plastered posters with Matthew's face across the city and in several SkyTrain stations. Police have canvassed Gastown looking for tips from locals, and released a photo of Matthew taken at an ATM on the night of his disappearance. So far, their efforts appear to be fruitless.

Close friend Devin Hopkins says it's hard to hang onto hopes of a breakthrough in the search.

"I was really hoping at this point in the game, when everyone in Vancouver knows about Matt, that some kind of information would have trickled in," he said.

Dustin Perry, a fellow friend, says that searchers are running out of options.

"We've thought of everything -- you try to not think about it. I've got no idea what we can do. We've tried pretty much everything," he said.

Matthew's friends and family have set up a website in an attempt to solicit tips about the missing man. Click here to visit FindMatthewHuszar.ca.
