One of three convicts who escaped from a prison work crew last week has been taken back into custody after he was caught dodging his SkyTrain fare in Burnaby, B.C.

David Traill, 48, was one of three men who disappeared from a Fraser Regional Correctional Centre work crew in Maple Ridge on Dec. 30.

He was arrested on Thursday after transit police stopped him at the Edmonds SkyTrain station, and discovered he had not paid his fare. Police say Traill lied about his identity, tried to escape by jumping off the train platform and then fought back against the officers while he was taken into custody.

Police are recommending new charges of assaulting and obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest. Traill was taken into custody in Coquitlam, and is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

RCMP are still searching for the two convicts who escaped with Traill. They were last seen wearing orange prison jumpsuits while working in Alco Park.

Douglas Erickson is 42 years old, 5-8 tall, 185 pounds, with brown eyes and short brown hair. He has two tattoos of a dragon and Tasmanian devil on his right shoulder.

Ryan Plotnikoff is 32 years old, 6-4 tall, 209 pounds, with blue eyes and short brown hair. He has a Tasmanian devil tattoo on a right-hand finger and a maple leaf tattoo on a left-hand finger. The Surrey man was serving a 10-month sentence after he pleaded guilty to unauthorized use of credit card data and possession of stolen property.

Police say they may have been picked up by a blue-grey sedan that was spotted in the area, but officials have not been able to confirm this.

The escapees are not believed to be violent, but police are warning the public not to approach the men. Mounties are asking anyone who sees the convicts to call 911 immediately.
