The Sunshine Coast Regional District announced stage three watering restrictions Wednesday due to “unprecedented” prolonged dry weather.

SCRD Spokesman Bryan Shoji said they’ve drawn the maximum limit of water from Chapman Lake and are now drawing from their backup, Edwards Lake.

Effective immediately, water users cannot use sprinklers to water lawns, gardens or vegetables, but can use hand-held hoses with shut off devices.

Washing sidewalks, driveways, cars, boats or equipment is not permitted.

As well, residential swimming pools, hot tubs, wading pools, ponds and decorative fountains cannot be filled.

Violators of water restrictions can be fined or have their water services temporarily shut off.

Offenders can be reported to 604-886-2274.
