Vancouver police are asking for the public's help identifying the last person seen with murder victim Raymond Robertson before he was found dead.

A friend discovered Robertson's body in a suite in a Downtown Eastside social housing building on March 11, marking the city's second murder of the year.

Vancouver police have released a surveillance camera image showing Robertson walking with a woman along East Hastings Street on March 8. She appears to be a First Nations woman with long black hair, a hip-length yellow jacket, black pants and white shoes.

Investigators say they would like to speak with the woman, and are asking anyone who knows her to contact Vancouver police.

"There's a gap there in time, and that's why this person becomes very critical to us, because maybe this person knows a little bit more about the time frame -- when he was last seen," Const. Jana McGuinness said.

At a memorial on Wednesday, friends and family described Robertson as a kind person who commanded respected throughout the impoverished Downtown Eastside community.

Andrea Alton, his wife of 13 years, broke into tears as she remembered Robertson.

"He was a very loving, kind, gentle man and he didn't deserve to die this way. He'll be dearly missed and I hope his soul and his spirit live on," she said.

Willie Morris told CTV News she knew Robertson for two decades.

"He was so harmless. He never hurt a fly. He helped people in the Downtown Eastside," she said.

Police have not revealed how Robertson was killed, but say his body showed signs of trauma.
