The BC Lions appointed Dennis Skulsky president and chief executive officer Thursday.

Skulsky will become the club's 29th president when he formally assumes the job May 1. Skulsky is presently the president and CEO of Canwest Publishing.

"Dennis is the perfect fit for this job, bringing a wealth of leadership experience to the role," Lions owner David Braley said in a statement. "His passion for the CFL along with tremendous respect and recognition as a business and community leader will benefit the Lions as he leads this organization into the future."

Skulsky will replace Bob Ackles, who held the position until his death in July 2008 of a heart attack at age 69.

"This is a dream job and I'm truly honoured to be given the opportunity to take on the challenges and responsibilities of the role in just a few short weeks," said Skulsky. "The Lions organization is one of Canada's most respected professional sports franchises benefiting from great leaders like David Braley, Wally Buono, George Chayka and my dear friend the late Bob Ackles."
