Delta police charged 47-year-old Lakhvinder Kahlon on Saturday with first degree murder in connection with the death of his daughter, Rajvinder Kahlon.

Police found the body of the two-and-a-half year old girl upon arrival of the Kahlon family home in the 7800 block of 116th Street in North Delta on Friday morning.

Late Friday night, police removed the body of the girl, wrapped in blankets, after investigators obtained a search warrant.

A distraught neighbour told CTV News that a woman was seen outside of the house at approximately 9 a.m. that morning, saying, "He killed my daughter, he killed my daughter."

Residents in the area are in shock. Neighbours say the owner of the house, Lahkvinder Khalon, was the father of three daughters, and that he was an out-of-work drywaller and he was depressed.

The two older daughters attended nearby McCloskey Elementary School.

Delta Police say they will remain at the scene in order to conduct an extensive investigation. They added this is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the community.

Police report that the family members of the victim are safe and under the care of extended family and friends.
