It was a close call for commuters on board a West Coast Express bus heading to Vancouver Thursday morning.

The 10:27 a.m. bus leaving from Mission crashed after the driver blacked out behind the wheel, sending the bus careening down a hill near 116th and 222nd Street.

The incident ended with the bus going over a curb, coming to rest against a tree.

Twenty-two passengers were on board at the time of the crash. Two women were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

Cantrail, the company contracted to operate the bus service, says the 43-year-old driver is very experienced and has a clean driving record.

The West Coast Express Train/Bus service runs twice in the mid-morning from Mission to Vancouver, and once in the afternoon and twice in the evening from Vancouver to Mission.

A spokesperson for TransLink says the accident is under investigation.
