Firefighters in Burnaby, B.C., say they were unable to salvage a burning home because it was too full of furniture to enter safely.

Assistant Fire Chief Ward Rossiter said the home, located in the 7300-block of 16th Avenue, had a "huge fuel load inside."

"The owner was a furniture collector and there's a lot of … material in there and it's just not safe to gain entry," he said.

Debris around the outside of the house and a downed power line blocking the front entrance also hindered the firefighting effort.

About 35 firefighters worked to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to neighbouring structures.

The home was destroyed, but all residents were accounted for and no injuries were reported.
