Former Edmonton Eskimos, Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes wide receiver Brad Smith has been named the first Bachelor Canada star.
The 28-year-old CFL free agent is taking a break from sports to find true love, according to a press release announcing his role in the reality series, and favours independent, intelligent, social women.
"I take this experience very seriously, and I truly believe in the process," Smith said in the release. "I can't wait to meet all the wonderful Canadian women who have put their lives on hold to experience all of this with me."
Vancouver-based Force Four Entertainment is producing the localized nine-episode season of the American series, where single women vie for the heart of a handsome bachelor, but it's unclear where the show will be set.
Smith, a Hudson, Que. native, currently lives in Toronto.
The show will air this fall on Citytv and OMNI.
