Police are investigating after an explosion captured on surveillance video rocked a Langley business Friday night.
Langley RCMP Cpl. Holly Largy said RCMP officers were patrolling downtown Langley on foot when they heard the blast at about 11:30 p.m.
“It was a really significant blast. It could be heard from miles and miles away,” she said.
The explosion happened outside All Day Vapes and store owner Shane Titus was still in a state of shock on Saturday.
“It’s pretty unreal to have this occur,” he said.
Titus found about the explosion when his alarm company called. He came to his store to find smashed glass from six shattered windows.
“I thought I’d got broken into at first,” he said. “The alarm going off was the police and fire department cutting through the bars to come check out the business in here and make sure it was all fine in here.”
Police and fire crews were on the scene Friday along with Fortis BC, since there was a leaking gas meter outside the store.
When Titus reviewed his surveillance footage he saw a stunning activity.
“This gentleman walks over carrying a knapsack, setting down in front of the gas meter, reaching back inside of it and walks away without it there. And that’s the last we see of him,” he said.
About six or seven minutes later the explosion occurs. Titus said he will be installing more cameras for outdoor surveillance.
“[It was] clearly a targeted attack in front of my business,” he said.
Titus said he doesn’t know why anyone would want to hurt his business.
As the investigation continues and video is examined, Largy said other investigative units may be added to the case.
“There [are] some pieces that were recovered that lead people to believe that it is suspicious,” she said.
No one was hurt by the blast and the investigation is ongoing.
