A Vancouver home care worker has been charged with stealing from the terminally-ill cancer patient, who she was hired to look after.
West Vancouver police allege that Maureen Jordan stole money from a 73-year-old woman, who is dying of cancer, by writing $1,200 cheques in her name and then cashing the cheques without getting the patient's permission.
Jordan, who worked for a home support company hired by Vancouver Coastal Health Authority, is charged with theft, fraud, and three counts of forging documents, according to statements filed in a Vancouver provincial court.
None of the allegations have been proven in court.
When approached by a CTV reporter on Tuesday, Jordon denied that she had even been charged.
"There are no [expletive] charges,'' she said.
Vancouver Coastal Health Authority spokeswoman Viviana Zanocco confirmed that Jordan was working for one of four companies which it hires to proved support services for the elderly but added that she was surprised to learn about the allegations.
"It happens to be one of the ones where we've received the fewest complaints regarding staff so it was quite a surprise,'' she said.
Jordan is scheduled to appear in court in North Vancouver, June 3rd.
