The Vancouver Canucks sent their first-round pick to the Florida Panthers for defenceman Keith Ballard and prospect Victor Oreskovich.
Steve Bernier and Michael Grabner are also headed to Florida as part of the deal.
The deal was originally conditional based on whether or not the player the Canucks wanted to draft with the 25th overall pick was still available, but it appears the prospect the Canucks had on their wish list was taken.
Ballard, 27, comes into Vancouver boasting impressive offensive numbers. The proven offensive defenceman has 33 goals, 116 assists and 149 points in his NHL career.
Oreskovic, 23, played 50 games with the Panthers in the 2009-11 season, scoring two goals and four assists for six points.
The Canucks say goodbye to Bernier after two seasons in Vancouver. The Quebec City native has 144 points in 317 NHL games.
Michael Grabner enjoyed his rookie campaign last season scoring five goals and six assists for 11 points. He was picked 14th overall in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft by Vancouver.
Florida used the 25th overall pick to select centre Quinton Howden of the Moose Jaw Warriors of the Western Hockey League.
