A trio of Canucks fans who perform in a video spoof of Gotye's "Somebody That I Used to Know" sing a melancholic, musical plea in support of the hockey team's Stanley Cup run.

The group known as IFHT released the "Canucks Playoff Song" on YouTube Saturday, and the video has since attracted more than 24,000 views.

Matt Dennison, who helped create and appears in the video, says his goal wasn't to make the regular pumped up sports tribute.

"We wanted to tell the story of the heartbreak of last year, not just have a feel-good song," Dennison said.

The video begins with Dennison dressed as a sombre-looking green man expressing his sorrow over the Canucks' 2011 Stanley Cup loss.

"Now and then I think about the playoffs last year. When we lost in Game 7, it made me cry," he croons.

Later joined by another guy wearing Canucks gear, the two launch into the song's chorus.

"So Vancouver it's time for playoffs. Pretend like last year never happened and that it was nothing. And once again we're number one, so let's win 16 games because 15 is not enough," they sing.

"Let's raise our playoff towels up, and go Canucks go, let's win the Stanley Cup."

The female vocalist then comes in with her bittersweet reprise

"Must you always bring up how the Bruins screwed us over? OK, we didn't win, but just admit it was a damn good run," she sings.

"So I don't care just what you say. Canucks are going all the way. Vancouver, let's just let it go."

Dennison then belts out, "And let's not blame everything on number one, Roberto Luongo."
