Canucks have no Lack of prospect goaltending
The Vancouver Canucks added some prospect goaltending depth on Tuesday by agreeing to a contract with free agent goalie Eddie Lack of the Swedish Elite League.
The news of the signing comes after Swedish newspaper Expressen reported the Canucks had worked out a deal with the native of Norrtalje, Sweden on Monday.
The 22-year-old served as Jacob Markstrom's backup for Brynas of the SEL last season. Lack posted a 2.67 goals-against-average, and a .911 save percentage with a record of five wins, seven losses and a tie.
Prior to joining Brynas, Lack appeared in 56 games with Leksand where he had a 1.95 GAA and a .927 save percentage.
With Lack under contract, the Canucks now have five goaltending prospects in the system. Cory Schneider is the closest to making the full-time jump to the NHL. The other three netminders are Joe Cannata, Morgan Clark, and Lukas Mensator who are all draft picks of the Canucks.
RyJo out 4-to-6 weeks with broken foot
The Canucks penalty kill suffered a devastating blow Tuesday when the team learned that Ryan Johnson will be out of the lineup for the next four-to-six weeks with a broken foot.
The injury occurred when Johnson blocked a shot in the Canucks game against the Minnesota Wild on Sunday.
This is the second time this season Johnson has broken his foot blocking a shot. Johnson missed 12 games after he blocked a shot in a game against the Nashville Predators on December 22.
Steve Bernier is expected to take his place in the lineup. Bernier has missed the last 17 games after undergoing sports hernia surgery for a groin injury.
Ehrhoff day-to-day with a tweaked knee
Christian Ehrhoff will not play against the Colorado Avalanche tonight and is listed as day-to-day with an injured knee.
Ehrhoff twisted his knee during a penalty kill in the third period when battling for the puck with Minnesota forward Andrew Brunette.
Coach Alain Vigneault said if tonight's game were a playoff game, Ehrhoff would most likely play. But with the start of the playoffs a week away, Vigneault does not want to take any risks in having one of his most consistent defenceman sustain any further injury to his knee.
Ehrhoff has had an MRI done, but the team has yet to receive the results. It is believed to be a second degree MCL sprain.
Shane O'Brien, who was benched for several games last week for being overweight, will draw into the lineup for tonight's game.
