The Vancouver Canucks will seek a sixth straight victory tonight at General Motors Place, where they host a Detroit Red Wings club that is still searching for its first road victory.

Since losing their home opener on October 5 to Columbus, Vancouver has notched 21 goals over a five-game win streak at home while yielding just eight goals in that span.

The Canucks went 24-12-5 at home last year and won a franchise-record 11 straight as the host at one point in the season. They aim to close a three- game homestand perfect this evening after a 2-0 blanking of the Oilers on Sunday.

Roberto Luongo halted all 27 shots faced to record his first shutout of the season and 21st in a Canucks uniform. That broke Kirk McLean's previous team record of 20.

"I think we are really starting to play well as a team, system-wise, and defensively," said Luongo, who posted the 48th blanking of his career. "That makes my job a lot easier."

Luongo has never shut out the Red Wings and is 6-8-1 with a tie and 2.46 goals-against average in his career versus them.

Henrik Sedin and Michael Grabner both scored versus the Oilers, lifting the Canucks to their third straight win overall. A 2006 first-round pick, the rookie Grabner has two goals and two assists over his last three games.

Kyle Wellwood missed Sunday's game due to a foot injury that has him day-to- day, while Rick Rypien has sat out Vancouver's last three games because of a groin issue.

The Red Wings play the third contest of a five-game road trip. They have lost the first two tests of the swing and are just 0-3-1 as the guest this year. Detroit went 24-12-5 on the road last year.

Getting their power play going might be the key for the Red Wings to get that first road win. They went 0-for-8 on the man advantage in Saturday's 3-1 loss in Colorado and are just 2-for-16 over a three-game losing streak.

Kris Draper had the lone goal in Saturday's loss, while Jimmy Howard gave up two goals on 22 shots faced.

"We had people there in the crease all night," said forward Henrik Zetterberg, who has just one goal on the season. "We had second chances, and we just have to keep battling."

Chris Osgood is likely to start tonight's game. He is 17-4-2 with four ties and a 2.56 GAA in his career against Vancouver.

These two clubs split four meetings a season ago, while Detroit has lost three of its last five at Vancouver.
