B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called in to probe the discovery of a body in a quiet North Vancouver park Wednesday.
Investigators taped off a large area around a wooded part of Kirkstone Park, just south of Lynn Valley Road, after the resident who made the gruesome find called authorities.
Police say they don't know how long the body had been at the location but believe foul play is involved.
A woman who lives near the park told CTV News that the body was inside a white bag in a ditch.
"My neighbour saw it, my dad saw it, they didn't think anything of it," she said. "One of my neighbours kicked the bag and called police."
The Lower Mainland District Forensic Identification Section, aided by canine unit members, were expected to remain at the scene late into the night to scan the area for evidence.
Investigators haven't been able to determine the gender or age of the deceased. An autopsy is expected in the coming days to identify the victim.
IHIT investigators and Mounties say they will conduct neighbourhood inquiries on Thursday to determine if there has been any suspicious activity in the area.
