Despite the efforts of a mediator, maintenance and security workers at BC Place Stadium have moved to strike.
The B.C. Government and Service Employees' Union local 1703 issued a 72-hour strike notice Tuesday afternoon that could be exercised as early as Friday.
BC Pavilion Corporation (PAVCO) responded to the notice with a statement saying it had already agreed to a number of unnamed union demands.
"PAVCO has also agreed to accept the mediator's recommendations in full," the statement read. "Despite this setback, PAVCO remains optimistic that further progress will be made."
If a strike occurs, events at BC Place will have to be moved or cancelled, the company added.
The next scheduled sporting event at the stadium is a soccer game between the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
Workers voted in support of job action late last month, giving the union 90 days to serve strike notice.
The vote was organized after talks between the BCGEU and PAVCO broke off in September.
The union, which fears work will be contracted out and employees' hours will be reduced, says its key issue is job security.
