The BC Lions trimmed down their roster Wednesday morning. The club released seven players as they prepare to open their 2010 CFL season in Edmonton against the Eskimos July 4.

Defensive lineman Victor DeGrate was let go, as well as defensive back John Richardson.

Linebackers Bryant Cornell and Nic Edgson were cut. Wide receiver Tony Washington, offensive liner Jason Boone, defensive back John Richardson and quarterback Kyle Parrish all did not make Wednesday cut.

"We had an very competitive camp in Kamloops and personnel decisions this year were as difficult as I can recall," said Lions GM and head coach Wally Buono.

"We will likely see some of the players released today in uniform with other CFL clubs this season, but I am very excited about the team we have assembled and I believe our fans will see that we're moving in the right direction."

The Lions now have four days of practice and gelling time before they begin fulltime preparations for their regular season opener next week.
