The BC Lions announced Monday they have added J.R. LaRose and long snapper Sean Ortiz to their line-up.

The pair agreed to long-term contracts with the team. LaRose brings in some experience to the team, while Ortiz adds some fresh talent to the mix.

LaRose hopes to come back from a season-ending injury he suffered midway through his 2008 campaign with the Edmonton Eskimos.

The Eskimos released their 2006-07 starting safety at the end of the 2008 season. LaRose had 59 tackles in that time.

LaRose is looking to have a fresh start in the CFL with the Lions, after he caught the eye of Lion's coaches while at a free agent camp in Surrey.

Ortiz was born in White Rock and joins the line-up of his hometown squad as long snapper. He attended training camp auditions for the Toronto Argonauts 2008 and Montreal Alouettes in 2009.

Ortiz played with Minot State in South Dakota for three years, before transferring to UBC for his final year of eligibility in 2007.

The Lions also announced Monday they released quarterback Zac Champion.
