Retail giant Target will open two dozen stores in Western Canada on Tuesday, including nine in British Columbia.

Locations will open at 8 a.m. in Coquitlam, Delta, Langley, Victoria, Vernon, Nanaimo, Cranbrook, Campbell River and Kamloops.

A Prince George store will open on May 14.

The discount retailer is expected to open between 125 and 135 locations in Canada.

Analysts have speculated that the launches will put pressure on big-box retailers like Walmart, Sears, Canadian Tire and Joe Fresh – something that could mean lower prices for consumers.

But B.C. shoppers expecting to get the same deals they experience at Target stores south of the border may be disappointed. Although the company says it will strive to be competitively priced with other Canadian retailers, prices could be higher than the U.S. because of higher minimum wages and import taxes.
