Mounties have arrested a suspect believed to have stabbed a 43-year-old man who told him to pick up his litter in Chilliwack, B.C. earlier this month.

Const. Tracy Wolbeck said the victim was walking his dog on Remembrance Day when he saw a group of four young adults throwing 7-11 drink cups on the ground.

"He asked them to pick up their garbage and put it in the garbage can, and an altercation ensued," she said.

The victim was also sprayed with pepper spray. He was treated and released from hospital earlier this month, but was re-admitted Monday for complications involving his stab wounds.

Mounties have arrested one 21-year-old Chilliwack resident in connection with the stabbing. The unnamed suspect was released from custody on condition that he appear in court at a later date.

Wolbeck said investigators have spoken to three other young adults believed to have been littering at the scene, but they are not considered suspects in the stabbing and are not facing charges.

"We may [reconsider] as the investigation progresses," Wolbeck added.
