Bolingo Etibako, the only survivor of an arson fire that killed his family in May 2006, pled guilty Wednesday to two charges of robbing banks.

Etibako's sentencing hearing will be March 14th. He was charged with robbery for three of a string of bank heists to hit Vancouver in January but will plead guilty to only two.

Etibako survived an East Vancouver arson attack that killed three siblings, his mother and his girlfriend, and spent months recovering in hospital. The incident shocked the Congolese community in Vancouver.

Investigators found an accelerant was used in the fire, and Nathan Richard Fry has been charged with five counts of first degree murder and one count of attempted murder in connection with the incident.

Etibako is charged with bank robberies on Jan. 8, 10 and 22nd of this year. The first took place in Vancouver's West End and the second and third were in Point Grey.

Etibako is being held in custody pending his bail hearing.

Police said so far this year there have been 47 bank robberies, compared to 17 at this time last year.
