The Vancouver, B.C., teen accused of using Facebook to post a "hit list" of fellow students will be tried as a youth.

Seven weapons-related charges were originally recommended in adult court, with further youth charges pending -- but his lawyer says the Crown has decided to prosecute exclusively under the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

"They can't pick both jurisdictions," lawyer Dave Karp said. "And in my estimation, which was a wise decision, they've chosen to proceed in youth court."

The student will now face 11 charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm and uttering threats. He is being held in custody until his bail hearing on Thursday, June 11.

Karp says there's nothing to suggest this was a potential Colombine - where two students at a Colorado high school killed 11 fellow students and a teacher in 1999.

He says his client has no criminal record or history of behavioural problems, and did not take any weapons to school.

The 18-year-old from Templeton Secondary School was arrested on May 29 after six students told police they had received threats over the internet.

After his arrest, police say a cache of weapons was seized from his home, including a shotgun, a machete, a sword, a knife and two collapsible metal batons.
