Two people were killed and another sustained life-threatening injuries in two separate crashes Saturday night in the Lower Mainland.
The first crash occurred at around 7:30 p.m. when a black 2007 Honda Civic Coupe crashed into a parked car then a power pole in Harrison Hot Springs.
Mounties say alcohol and speed appear to be factors and the driver, a man in his 20s, is under investigation for impaired driving.
All three occupants were transported by air ambulance to Royal Columbian Hospital, where a 19-year-old passenger from Delta succumbed to his injuries. His name has not been released.
Another passenger, a woman in her 20s, remains in hospital in critical condition. The driver sustained serious injuries.
The crash is being investigated by the Fraser Valley Traffic Services.
Man killed in single-vehicle crash
Just hours later, a green Dodge Viper heading west on Highway 1 in Langley veered onto the grassy median and rolled over, pinning the lone occupant inside.
Witnesses told police the vehicle was travelling roughly 160 kilometres per hour prior to the crash.
The driver was pronounced dead at the scene after being extricated from the car. He has been identified as 32-year-old Jeremy Pinette of Abbotsford.
Anyone who witnessed the crash but has not spoken to police is asked to contact Const. Becker at Port Mann Traffic Services at 604-526-9744.
