A 25-year-old man has died following multiple stabbings at Vancouver's Plaza of Nations.

Two other victims remain in hospital, one with very serious injuries and a second who underwent surgery and remains in serious condition.

Dozens of officers responded to the scene in front of the Harbour Events Centre and adjoining Prive nightclub around 2:30 a.m.

Two young men taken to Burnaby General Hospital's emergency room were later taken into custody with bags put over their hands to preserve evidence.

A third man who arrived at hospital on his own was transferred to Royal Columbian Hospital.

"We have a number of people in custody. Some people are witnesses, some are suspects. All are uncooperative," said Const. Brian Montague.

Montague said it appears the stabbings involved two groups of people near the taxi stand but it's unclear if they came from the same location, or within the nightclub or casino nearby.

It's unclear what motivated the stabbing, but it does not appear random, according to VPD.

Officers could be seen combing the area with flashlights and interviewing witnesses.

Bloody clothing was visible on the ground in the parking lot across from Pacific Avenue and a large portion of the plaza was blocked by police tape.

Police are hoping for cooperative witnesses to come forward, and are scouring the area for surveillance video.
