Police have identified a woman fatally shot on a rural road in Chilliwack last week, hoping someone will come forward with more information.

Diane Kathleen Johner, 52, was fatally wounded in a double shooting shortly before 8 p.m. on Friday, in the area of the 48000-block of Chilliwack Central Road, near Banford Road.

A 23-year-old man was injured in the shooting, and remains in hospital days later, officials said Wednesday.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to handle the case, and released Johner's identity in hopes that someone would have more information on her whereabouts in the days and hours before the shooting.

IHIT investigators believe Johner was an acquaintance of the other victim, but said that her relationship with him is unclear.

Cpl. Meghan Foster, of IHIT, said the shooting appears to be targeted, not random. She said the female victim was a Chilliwack resident, and the male victim was from Surrey. Neither of them had a criminal record.

Anyone who saw Johner in Chilliwack before her death is asked to contact the IHIT tip line at 877-551-4448, or to contact Crime Stoppers to report information anonymously.

She has been described as Caucasian with long, curly blonde hair and hazel eyes. She was 5-7 and 120 pounds, and was wearing blue jeans, white shoes and a dark-coloured zip-up sweater on the day she died.

"IHIT investigators are continuing to work closely with the UFVRD RCMP and (Integrated Forensic Identification Services) to piece together the evidence and are grateful for the help already received by the community," Foster said in a news release.
