Charges have been laid against two men arrested after a pickup truck rammed two RCMP cruisers in Surrey last week.

The Mounties were pulling the truck over near a strip mall in the Newton neighbourhood Friday afternoon when the driver allegedly tried to flee and smashed into their vehicles.

The officers opened fire on the truck, but the RCMP said none of the bullets struck anyone.

Three suspects were arrested and on Monday Mounties confirmed a slew of charges have been approved against two of them.

Langley resident Daniel Monaghan, 26, is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, two counts of assaulting a peace office, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest, possessing a break-in instrument, and dealing with an identity document without lawful excuse.

David Traill, a 52-year-old from Surrey, is charged with being a passenger in a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, and breaching a conditional sentence order.

The third suspect, a 26-year-old woman, was released from custody and is also facing charges that will be confirmed later, police said.

The RCMP officers involved suffered minor injuries in the crash and were taken to hospital. They have both been treated and released.

B.C.’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigations Office, was notified of the shooting but will not be investigating because no one was hurt. The Langley RCMP’s Serious Crime Unit has been called to probe that aspect of the case instead.
