Mounties are asking the public to help identify a suspect in a disturbing daylight sex assault committed last weekend in Surrey.

The RCMP said a woman was attacked sexually and physically in a wooded area near the intersection of Fraser Highway and 140th Street around 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The victim was taken to a local hospital and treated for undisclosed injuries.

A male suspect was seen leaving the area on foot, but the Surrey RCMP’s Special Victims Unit has so far been unable to identify him.

On Wednesday, Mounties released surveillance photos of the suspect in the hopes someone will recognize him and come forward.

He’s described as a black man in his late 30s, over six feet tall, roughly 160 lbs. with short black hair and a distinctive lazy right eye.

The suspect was wearing a dark blue sweater with thick black lettering, blue jeans and white runners around the time of the offence. He was also seen carrying a brown paper bag.

Anyone with information on the attack is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP detachment at 604-599-0502, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS if they wish to remain anonymous.
