Burnaby Mounties say weather and speed is likely a factor in a crash that killed a 20-year-old cab driver on Barnet Highway.
The Vancouver Taxi cab hit a pole after apparently losing control on the road around 11:30 p.m. Thursday night.
The driver was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not been released.
The impact of the collision destroyed the front-end of the vehicle, and large pieces of the engine were scattered across the highway.
The highway, near the Burnaby-Port Moody border, was closed overnight while police investigated.
Mounties say the cabbie had just dropped off a passenger in the Tri-Cities area before the collision.
Any witnesses are asked to come forward.
