A total of nine people were taken into custody in South Surrey Monday morning following an early morning shooting in the parking lot of a hotel.

Officers responded to the Pacific Inn on King George Boulevard around 3:10 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired.

RCMP found shell casings in the area and investigators could be seen scouring the parking lot with flashlights.

Around 30 evidence markers were placed near the entrance to the hotel lobby and part of the exterior was roped off with yellow police tape.

Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots.

"First I was woken up by four or five shots and then another barrage of shots," said Rohr Moser, who lives in the care home next door.

Sgt. Alanna Dunlop said early indications suggest the shooting is targeted and involves people who know each other.

"There was an altercation between a number of people and subsequently shots were fired between vehicles," said Dunlop.

Police arrested nine people believed to be involved, although charges have not been laid. A number of those arrested are underage teenagers.

Officers are conducting neighbourhood canvassing and are attempting to speak with witnesses.

Minutes after the shooting RCMP pulled over a dark-coloured SUV on King George near Highway 10.

The window of the SUV was shot out, and one person was treated for minor injuries from broken glass.
