An expanded B.C. recycling program that allows consumers to recycle even more of their old products will also hit them a bit harder in the pocketbook.

The revamped ElectroRecycle program, which starts July 1, means that British Columbians will be able to recycle some 300 electrical products at depots across the province.

The program will now include items such as power tools, sewing machines, countertop microwaves and exercise equipment, like treadmills or elliptical trainers.

Consumers will start seeing new recycling fees added at the cash register depending on the size of the new item purchased.

The fee is used for the collection, transportation and recycling of the electrical products. There is no charge to drop off the goods at the recycling depot.

A full list of accepted products, including fees, can be found at electrorecycle.ca.
