Most Metro Vancouverites happy with their job, poll finds

An increasing number of workers in Metro Vancouver are happy – even delighted – with their current job, according to a new poll.

The Insights West survey found half of all employed residents in the region feel “happy” with their work, up four per cent from last year, and another 24 per cent feel “delighted.”

Pollster Maria Canseco said people may be feeling particularly grateful given B.C.’s current economic stability.

“Ontario’s not doing as well as we are, Alberta is certainly going through a lot of difficulties, and it’s almost a scenario where you are happy with what you have,” Canseco said.

There are still about one-in-four workers who reported being “not so happy” with their job, according to the poll, but only 12 per cent of respondents said they’re actively looking for new work.

Canseco said the number of people seeking new opportunities has dropped about five per cent since last year, and that outside factors – including the out-of-control housing market – are potentially pushing people to play it safe.

Insights West’s survey also asked people to name their dream employer, and came up with a list of 20 companies and organizations ranging from the BC Children’s Hospital to Hootsuite.
