Mounties are investigating whether a young man struck by a train in Maple Ridge early Friday morning was the same person who left a nearby rollover crash.

The RCMP said a19-year-old was hit by a train near 203 Street and Hammond Road around 2 a.m. and rushed to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries.

About an hour earlier, blocks away on 201 Street, a car slammed into an electrical box and flipped over before coming to a rest in front of a home.

Mounties said the young man struck by the train is related to the owner of the car, but they haven’t determined whether he was in the vehicle when it rolled over.

He remains in hospital in critical condition. The RCMP said officers have contacted his family.
