A man from Williams Lake, B.C. has been shot dead by police.

RCMP say the incident happened around 12:30 a.m. as Mounties responded to a complaint in the area of Nimpo Lake, 370 kilometres northwest of Vancouver.

The Delta Police Department has been called in as the outside police force to investigate the circumstances of the shooting.

Owing to that investigation, police aren't yet releasing specific details around what happened.

Officers from the RCMP's major crime unit are securing the scene, while the BC Coroner's Service and victim services have been notified.

Delta police are expected to arrive at the site later today, however, weather conditions have delayed their journey.
