A man’s body was found inside a parked vehicle in Surrey Tuesday morning in what investigators are calling a likely targeted murder.
Surrey RCMP found the dead body at around 9 a.m. in a maroon car near the intersection of 92nd Avenue and 189 Street.
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case and said the homicide does not appear to be random.
The man’s identity or age has not been confirmed, and police said they’re still in the process of contacting his family.
“We have an idea of who the victim might be but we need to confirm the identity of the victim first for ourselves,” said Cpl. Dominic Duchesneau.
A neighbour told CTV News the area of road the body was found in was a dead end with only an unused property nearby.
“It’s an abandoned house back there,” said Ben Buergem.
Buergem said he was surprised a murder took place in the area. “It’s a nice neighbourhood. We don’t have any problems around here,” he said.
Police are calling it Surrey's first confirmed homicide of the year.
