British Columbia tourism is off to a strong start in 2016 with international visitors up 17 per cent during the first three months of the year.

The province says 121-thousand more people travelled to B.C. compared to the same period last year.

Visitors from France shot up 51 per cent, while Mexican travellers went up 45 per cent and American tourists are up 20 per cent.

Travellers from Japan, South Korea, China, Germany and Australia also came in higher numbers during the first three months of 2016.
