Mounties in White Rock, B.C., are investigating the discovery of a woman's body on the city's West Beach on Tuesday.

The body was reported at around 8 a.m. near the 14300-block of Marine Drive by a train conductor.

The woman's identity is not yet known. Investigators say she is 40 to 50 years old, and wearing black jeans and a dark hoodie.

The cause of death has not been determined. Cpl. Annie Linteau said the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team was called to the scene "in an abundance of caution" to help establish whether the death is suspicious.

Train traffic along the beach was halted temporarily, but resumed shortly after.

An autopsy will be conducted on Wednesday.
