A 19-year-old man died after being stabbed during a fight with several youth following the Rhythm on the Rock Concert in Courtenay, B.C. Saturday night.
According to Comox Valley RCMP, the teenager was stabbed near the entrance to Vanier Secondary School. Within minutes of the stabbing, a 16-year-old boy was located by police less than a kilometre away and taken into custody.
Const. Tammy Douglas said in a release that the victim, who has not been identified, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital.
"Tragically, he later succumbed to his injuries," Douglas said.
Police are recommending charges of murder for the 16-year-old suspect, who is being held for his first court appearance.
Police said the suspect is not known to police and has no previous history of violence or a criminal record.
