June 11 marks the kickoff of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.

While the world is cheering, Vancouver Whitecaps FC celebrates "the beautiful game" with an entire week of soccer festivities beginning Sunday, June 6 at Swangard Stadium.

The 'Caps host the newly formed USSF D-2 club, the Tampa Bay Rowdies. Despite being a new club to the league, Tampa has a history with Vancouver.

Vancouver became North American Soccer League Champions after beating Tampa Bay 2-1 in the 1979 Soccer Bowl.

Fans are encouraged to indulge in some nostalgia and dress in their best (or worst) '70s outfits to help summon the spirit of the 1979 Whitecaps champs for Sunday's match.

The Whitecaps women are also in action on the road June 6 and 8. The women's squad showed skill in their 2010 United Soccer Leagues W-League debut with a 2-1 victory over Colorado Force FC.

Tuesday, June 8 is set to become a milestone day for Whitecaps FC, as the team prepares to share two momentous MLS announcements.

The first is the announcement and unveiling of the new Whitecaps MLS brand and logo at the Vancouver Convention Centre Tuesday morning.

The 'Caps also plan to release information concerning pricing and availability of Major League Soccer game tickets for fans.

Wednesday, June 9 Vancouver's NASL Conference rivals the Carolina RailHawks roll into town for their last-ever regular season visit to Swangard.

Lucky Whitecaps contest winners will join Whitecaps alumni, staff and members of the local media on a bus destined for Seattle, Washington to enjoy MLS match against Seattle Sounders FC and D.C. United June 10 at Qwest Field.

The upcoming Whitecaps week of soccer culminates a 36-year history beginning in 1974 before the club becomes an MLS squad in 2011.

Since their inaugural season the Whitecaps have enjoyed four straight Canadian Soccer League titles from 1987-1992.

The 'Caps also won two United Soccer League First Division and two USL W-League championships in their last six seasons.

The historic Vancouver club now looks to make their footprint on MLS history next season.
