Winning an election is more than shaking hands, and holding babies.

It's about winning the hearts of voters, and in this election politicians are betting victory is through your wallet.

Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper has focused on consumer protection with tougher fines and prison terms and restitution for victims

"We will make it easier to investigate and prosecute collusion and other anti-competitive practices," he said.

The Conservatives promise legislation to reduce internet spam and Identity theft through phishing and other forms of fraud.

For his part, Liberal Party leader Stephane Dion said his party "will come with our five point plan to help Canadians face the difficulties that we have today."

But beyond the economy, in the Liberal platform is an interest-free green mortgage program for up to $10,000 to make eco-friendly improvements to your home.

And the Liberal's promised carbon tax won't be on gasoline.

The Green Party would boost the GST to six per cent to pay for infrastructure improvements like better bus service and sewage treatment.

"A lot of people think everyone will hate that, but frankly I don't know anyone who felt like it was a big change paying 6 percent instead of 5 percent, and the difference it will make for our cities and quality of life are huge, " said Green Party leader Elizabeth May.

The Greens want to begin the shift to organic agriculture as the dominant model of production, requiring mandatory labeling of all genetically engineered foods and food ingredients.

"While we're at it, lets stop the shameful rip offs and gouging by the cell phone

Giants, the banks and the credit card companies."

The NDP's Jack Layton would like to see credit card company interest capped at

Five percentage points over prime, meaning all cards would be under 10 per cent today.

He'd like a new ministry of consumer protection

"While we're at it, lets stop the shameful rip offs and gouging by the cell phone

Giants, the banks and the credit card companies."

"Unlike the outgoing Prime Minister, we'll stop the rip-offs and watch your back"

And if the NDP had its way - we would see the end to this - the penny - which now costs more than a penny to make.
