Mounties confirm they are investigating the discovery of two bodies in a Richmond, B.C. hotel room, but are offering few other details about the case.
Hotel staff called police at around 6 p.m., asking they check on guests who had failed to check out.
Officers found a 50-year-old woman and 55-year-old man, both Richmond residents, deceased inside.
Police would not confirm the name or location of the hotel, but staff members tell CTV News the pair was found at the Hampton Inn at 8811 Bridgeport Road.
Cpl. Sherrdean Turley said both bodies appear to have suffered trauma, but would not speak to the possibility of a murder-suicide or even say that a crime had taken place.
"I wouldn't say it wasn't a mystery. We have two people who are deceased in the hotel room and I think what we all need to remember here is that two lives have been lost and this is a very tragic event."
The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team has not been called to investigate, suggesting police are not treating the incident as a murder, and Richmond RCMP say there is no risk to the public.
Next of kin have been notified, but the names of the deceased are being withheld at the request of the families.
The investigation is ongoing.
