A suspected propane explosion is believed to be the cause of a deadly fire late Tuesday night inside an apartment building at 155 E. 19th Avenue. Emergency offiicials confirmed three people have been killed.

As many as four people have serious injuries. Emergency crews have treated dozens more on scene.

Witnesses have told CTV News people were seen jumping off balconies trying to escape the fire.

It is believed the explosion happened at 9:45 p.m. inside a suite of the three-storey apartment building. The ensuing fire gutted a section of the building from the ground floor to the roof. Fire officials from the City of North Vancouver requested additional help from the District of North Vancouver and from West Vancouver.
