RCMP have confirmed that three children under the age of 10 were found murdered in the town of Merritt, B.C. Sunday.

Const. Tracy Dunsmore said that no one has been taken into custody in relation to the deaths as of late Sunday nor were police searching for a suspect.

Dunsmore said the three children were siblings.

Few details have been released, but CTV News has been told by several people in the neighbourhood that a woman came home this afternoon and found her three children stabbed to death.

"There was about six cop cars here, and tape all over," said Dan Robins, a neighbour who lives on Telemon Place near the mobile home.

"The girl walked by my house about half an hour before all this went down," he said. "She walked down to the corner store. She was dressed normal, had no marks or anything.

"Then she came back, went into the house, and the next thing we see is four RCMP with lights blazing," said Robins.

The woman was incredibly distraught and was taken out of the house and placed in an ambulance, said Robins.

Police had previously asked neighbours to stay in their homes but said that they didn't believe there was a threat to the community.

The oldest girl was about 10 years old and blond, he said. The younger boys were about 7 and 4, he said.

"She had no blood on her, so it was nothing to do with her," said Robins of the woman.

Another neighbour, Ron Bready, said he was shocked at the sudden police presence.

"Everybody's freaked right out. It was a very, very quiet neighbourhood," he said. "There hasn't been any thefts on this neighbourhood, nothing. So when I came home, I was just, I just about flipped out when I heard it."

Police went door-to-door Sunday to speak to neighbours, asking if they had seen or heard anything unusual Saturday night.

Little is known about the family at this point but one neighbour said they were new to the community. It was believed that they moved up from B.C.'s Lower Mainland

"They been in there for a few months and I really didn't know them at all. There were three children and a woman,'' said a neighbour, who did not want to be identified.

By early Sunday evening, a group of people could be seen laying flowers near the home.

Merritt is about 270 kilometres northeast of Vancouver.
