The search is on for a red vehicle in Fort St. John, where a young teen was killed in a hit-and-run crash Tuesday night.

The 14-year-old was struck while riding his bicycle though an intersection in a residential neighbourhood in the northern B.C. city.

Witnesses report seeing the driver speed away after hitting the boy.

The boy suffered severe head injuries, according to RCMP. He was rushed to hospital but could not be revived.

The boy's identity has not been released.

Mounties are asking anyone who witnessed the collision to come forward.
