It appears the Toronto Maple Leafs will now have some competition in trying to land the services of Dave Nonis.

According to a report in The Globe and Mail newspaper, the Atlanta Thrashers have shown some interest in the former GM of the Vancouver Canucks. The report states Nonis would become the new GM, while current GM Don Waddell would be promoted to team president.

TSN has learned that Nonis, a native of Burnaby, B.C., will meet the Toronto Maple Leafs on Tuesday. There's been rampant speculation that Nonis' hiring would be the first step towards bringing in Anaheim GM Brian Burke to oversee the hockey club's hockey operations.

Nonis was fired by the Canucks in April after failing to make the playoffs this past season. He was replaced by former NHL player agent Mike Gillis several weeks after his dismissal.
