Former player agent Mike Gillis will be the new manager of the Vancouver Canucks, sources tell CTV News.

Gillis will replace Dave Nonis, who was fired last week by Canucks Manager Francesco Aquilini when the National Hockey League franchise failed to make the playoffs.

A press conference is being planned by the team to announce the switch.

Gillis is a player agent whose clients have included a star roster, including Pavel Bure and Canucks captian Markus Naslund.

Gillis has a daughter who was recently named to Team Canada's national field hockey team.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario, Gillis played for the OHA's Kingston Canadians, and was chosen fifth overall by the Colorado Rockies in 1978.

In 1981, Gillis moved to the Boston Bruins, but retired in 1984.
