A seven-week-old baby girl has been reunited with her mother following a frightening carjacking spree in Surrey that prompted a massive manhunt for the suspect.
The first carjacking happened around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday after Mounties received reports of a man armed with a gun in Cloverdale.
RCMP say a white man with bad skin and short hair stole a black pickup truck in the area of 186th Street and Fraser Highway.
After fleeing the area, the stolen vehicle crashed into several vehicles near Fraser Highway and 68th Avenue before flipping upside-down.
Mounties say that’s when the suspect jumped out of the truck and stole a red Ford Escape with an infant strapped into the back seat.
“All available units attended the area immediately in an effort to locate the vehicle and the baby. The stolen Ford Escape was located by patrolling officers within minutes,” Cpl. Bert Paquet said in a statement.
The vehicle was found abandoned with the baby still inside in the area of 96th Avenue and 158th Street.
The baby is unharmed and has now been reunited with her mom.
Police say a gun was recovered inside the pickup truck ditched at the accident scene. A suspect was taken into custody but police are still confirming whether it's the man they're looking for.
